The following are a list of races that are taking place throughout the South East that members of PWR are likely to be running.

Look out for the races with a %which form part of the PWR 2008 Grand Prix.

Still feeling the effects of that Christmas pud from the Swanley Christmas Caper? Then this 10 miler is the one for you! A good race for beginners and a great pre-marathon warm-up. A PWR Grand Prix race.

Barretts Canterbury 10

Not content with the cathedral and the “Tales” now Canterbury is trying to add a 10 mile race to its roll of honours! And why not, especially when they do it so well! Beautiful scenery – look out for the ice if its really cold though!

Brands Hatch Half Marathon

Always used the excuse that you can never run on a Sunday? Well this race has been laid on just for the likes of you! Watch out for Druids – we don’t want you spinning off because you took the corner too fast! The only thing lacking with this race is commentary from Murray Walker – now that would be good!

Don’t fancy Sidcup and feel that you could do the extra 3.1 miles – well have a go at the Dover Half – a course set deep in the beautiful Kent country side – who’ll be the first to “see the sea”?

Hastings Half Marathon

Probably the best Half marathon you will ever run – it has every thing from a 6 mile hill climb at the start to one of the fastest down hill sections of any race, to a fantastic 2 mile flat section at the end along the sea front – if you only ever run one half marathon during your running life then let it be the Hastings! A PWR Grand Prix Race.

Folkestone 10

10 Miles

Fancy taking the family out for the day on Good Friday and can’t think of any where to go - why not pop along to Folkestone and treat them all to a pre Easter egg 10 miler! A really well supported race and it also means you’ve done your usual Sunday long run two days early and can therefore have a lie in!

Kingston Breakfast Run

You can choose between either an 8 mile or a 16 mile (i.e. two laps of 8 mile course). Supported by a number of celebrities in training for the London Marathon. Run along the banks of the Thames and the side of Hampton Court – what a way to start your Sunday off (oh yes – the reason they call it a breakfast run is that it has an 8 o’clock start!).

Worthing Harriers 20

 

20 Miles

Another 20 mile race that would fit perfectly into your marathon training schedule. If you don’t fancy the early start for Kingston, then try for a 9 O’clock start in Worthing! A really good multi lap race which is nice and flat and therefore not too punishing on the legs at this late stage!

Flora London Marathon

Don’t know much about this one, but some lady called Paula seems do rather well every time she runs it! Good luck to all of our members running the Flora London Marathon – all that hard work and training will carry you across that 26.2 mile finishing line with ease – but you still won’t be able to walk down stairs the day after!

This is an excellent cross country race set in Knoll Park – run with the deer (including some old dears!) and try to watch out for all that rabbit poo! A hard and punishing course but one worth running year after year! A PWR Grand Prix race.

The only ladies-only 5 miler around. Great no pressure race for all beginners. Anne Dunstan (Darrell’s group) has taken part in this race before and will be running this year’s event again. If you would like further information, please see if you can chat with Anne on a Tuesday night.

Hearts First Jog (Canary Wharf) 6m

The perfect way to end the busy working day! Join more than 1,700 people and put the FUN back into fundraising as you complete between 1 and 6 laps of a 1.5km circuit. Starting in Canada Square Park with a group warm-up, then do the distance your way by walking, jogging or running the route. Street entertainers add to the fantastic carnival atmosphere.

Midsummer madness! Supposedly the hardest half marathon in Britain. Entries are now full but quite a few PWRs have signed up for this and we will let you know what we think once we have finished it.

10k Great Forest Run

Charity run through the beautiful Bedgebury Forest mainly along tracks. A little hilly but outstanding views of the trees and wildlife. There is also a 2k Family Fun Run.

Kent Coastal Marathon and Half Marathon

The course is very picturesque, overlooking the sea for a large proportion of the event. The first half is generally strongly undulating, followed by a largely flat second half.
